Suspended Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin today said he was presented with evidence about the deposits from state-owned SRC International into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal bank accounts.
Muhyiddin said from the evidence, it was apparent that a crime had been committed.
"About the money from SRC International that went into Najib's personal bank accounts, I was personally informed by the former attorney-general (Abdul Gani Patail) together with evidence which clearly showed it to be a criminal act," he said in a press statement this morning.
The MACC had investigated the deposits of RM42 million from SRC International and US$681 million from an offshore account into Najib's personal bank accounts.
The new attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali earlier this month said there was no case and refused to prosecute but the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is appealing the decision.
Both Muhyiddin and Gani were removed from office in July last year as Najib moved to purge his opponents after the massive deposits were made public by the Wall Street Journal .
Muhyiddin was yesterday suspended as Umno deputy president for his criticisms of Najib.
Najib's in trouble, 'not me'
Najib's former deputy also lamented that the Umno supreme council has chosen to ignore the facts and have instead gone after him instead of the prime minister.
"The one involved in the 1MDB and RM2.6 billion scandals is not me but Najib.
"The one who received RM42 million from SRC International is not me but Najib.
"The one investigated by the MACC and faces the risk of prosecution is not me but Najib.
"The one who is rejected by the majority of rakyat is not me but Najib. The one that is the cause of all of Umno's problems is not me but Najib.
"Strangely, the one that is suspended is me while Najib continues to enjoy the power of his position and money," he said.
'Courageous support'
However, Muhyiddin thanked the few Umno leaders who still stood by him.
"I appreciate all those who have expressed support and stood with me in this struggle.
"Shafie Apdal and Mukhriz Mahathir have expressed their support from early on. To the two of them, I say thank you for supporting me.
"To the Umno grassroots leaders, particularly the Gabungan Ketua Cawangan Malaysia, who have courageously stood by the truth, I say congratulations.
"I am also grateful for the stance of Pagoh Umno which has been unwavering in braving the wave. Let us continue our struggle," he urged.
