Don't worry, all under control, KL top cop says after terror warning

Kuala Lumpur police chief Tajuddin Md Isa today assured that there is no security concerns, despite a travel advisory by Australia of a potential attack in the capital city.

He told Malaysiakini that Kuala Lumpur police have no information of such threats, as stated by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

“So far (we have) no info (on this). The security situation is well under control. Patrol with military has been enhanced especially areas which attract the public,” he said when contacted.

He said security personnel at hotels, shopping centres and tourists areas have been briefed on the Australian alert, but it is still not cause for concern.

“The public shouldn’t worry but is advised to take extra precaution and alert the police of anything suspicious. The public shouldn’t worry,” he stressed.

Australia today warned its citizens travelling to Kuala Lumpur that there may be a terrorist attack in the works in the city.

It said the attack could target areas frequented by Westerners.

Australia maintains its advise to citizens not to travel to the east coast of Sabah for security reasons.

The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office advised against all travel to the Sabah eastern islands, raising threat level from "general" to "high".

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar last month said police will increase surveillance in public areas, but denied there is a list of likely terror hotspots in the city.

Khalid said this after Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Abdullah mentioned several spots, including shopping district Bukit Bintang and various malls in Kuala Lumpur, as potential targets .
