A screenshot of a TV clip showing Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah with his eyes shut during his swearing-in ceremony as menteri besar at the Kedah palace today has caught the attention of celebrity Afdlin Shauki.
Commenting on his Facebook, the director, singer, actor-cum-businessman reprimanded national TV station RTM for failing to provide a good report on Bashah.
"Rtm is creating problems, please provide our brother some proper coverage."
Along with the posting, put up around noon today, Afdlin also attached a screenshot of the TV1 clip showing Bashah with his eyes shut.
He said those who work with the media should "go to school" or at least have some experience in covering such an important event.
"Please appreciate my message," he said.
The snapshot of the TV1 clip of Bashah shutting his eyes during the swearing-in ceremony is making the rounds.
According to The Star Online, Bashah shut his eyes for several moments but may not have dozed off because his head was still upright.
The newly sworn-in MB is "slighted" by personal insults against him, especially on claims he dozes off at important ceremonies.
"Yes, I am slighted (terguris)," Bashah told reporters after he was sworn in today.
The controversy first arose when former Kedah MB Mukhriz Mahathir said he hoped his successor will not "doze off during the oath-taking ceremony".
Mukhriz was referring to a clip showing Bashah purportedly sleeping at a palace function that has been circulating online.
However, Bashah disputed Mukhriz's statement, saying the 36-minute video clip which showed him allegedly napping was probably "edited".
Korang ni buat hal-lah RTM, tolonglah cover sikit brader kita tu... Itulah sebab org kerja media kena pergi sekolah atau ada pengalaman utk cover event live yg penting macam ni. Hayatilah pesanan ku ini.
