The National Audit Department has given its assurance to one and all that Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will be able to pay its dividends to the depositors this year.
"Based on the review of TH's income statement for the year ending Dec 31, 2015 and interim information received, it is found that TH can make the payments to its depositors," auditor-general Ambrin Buang said in a statement today.
Ambrin also said that their review of TH before the fund announces its dividends is common practice.
This is to ensure that the accounting policies utilised by TH are "consistent and adhere to the concept of prudence", he said.
Ambrin was responding to reports that linked their review of TH with claims that it would not be able to pay its depositors their dividends.
Meanwhile, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man ( photo ) said party officials paid TH a visit and held bilateral talks with them on this issue.
"Alhamdulillah, the visit and two-hour bilateral talks were very successful and PAS appreciates TH's willingness to accept our visit and explain things to us," Tuan Ibrahim said in a separate statement today.
After listening to TH's explanation, Tuan Ibrahim said, he hopes they can also provide a clear explanation to the people to put the issues surrounding TH to rest.
He also hopes that TH, which he described as "the biggest and most important Islamic institution in Malaysia", would stay free from claims that ruin its reputation and performance.
This comes after a Bank Negara letter to TH warning about its dwindling assets falling below its liabilities was leaked last week.
