S'gor PAS accepts Amanah councillors, but rejects party

Selangor PAS respects Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali's decision to appoint Amanah members as local councillors, even though it doesn't recognise the splinter party.

"Even though PAS doesn't recognise Amanah and has no ties with it, we nonetheless understand the menteri besar's dilemma.

"This however does not change our stand that Amanah had betrayed PAS and is always attacking PAS," said Selangor PAS secretary Mohd Khairuddin Othman in a statement today.

Khairuddin also thanked Azmin for not reducing the number of PAS councillors, and hoped the two can continue working together for the people of Selangor.

Selangor exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah today announced that Amanah would get eight out of the 34 council seats it asked for.

Amanah will have representatives in Sepang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor, he said.

Amanah Hulu Kelang assemblyperson Saari Sungip was previously reported as saying that the party was hopeful the state government would accede to its request for the appointment of 34 representatives in Selangor's 12 local councils.

Azmin is currently carefully balancing the role of PAS in the state government, after the Islamist party parted ways with PKR and DAP, and faced an internal split which led to the formation of Amanah.
