Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has drawn flak for stating she is prepared for blood to flow than see the nation fall into the hands of the predominantly-Chinese opposition DAP.
According to DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, her fear has nothing to do with the notion of DAP controlling the Malays as alleged.
“Why is Umno afraid of DAP? Not because the Chinese will control the Malays but because Umnoputras will not be able to exploit the Malays
“Shahrizat is the typical example of Umno leaders who resort to the politics of fear, hate, and lies to try to perpetuate their political careers and political position in the party,” he said.
Describing her statements as a “pack of lies”, the Gelang Patah MP said DAP does not want the Chinese to control Malays, or the Malays to control the Chinese, or any race to control another.
He added that DAP wants all Malaysians to rise above race to interact as Malaysians for the best common national interest.
Lim pointed out that under the leadership of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, Umno is going backwards instead of moving forward.
“In tandem with this growing authoritarianism in Umno, there is also a lurch towards dictatorship in general governance when the Umno/BN majority in Parliament rammed through the National Security Council Bill,” he said.
Lim argued that these are the real reasons behind Umno’s fear for DAP.
“Umno has become regressive and exclusivist while at the same time more corrupt and repressive – and the Malays themselves are rejecting Umno.
“Shahrizat is not really worried that DAP will cause the Chinese to control the Malays, as she knows there is no iota of truth in such fear-mongering.
“But she is afraid the days of Umno are numbered as the Malays themselves will reject Umno and Sharizat will no longer be able to exploit baseless fears of the community,” he said.
During her winding-up speech at the Wanita Umno assembly yesterday, Shahrizat appealed to Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Muhyiddin Yassin, and Shafie Apdal to return to the fold.
Otherwise, she claimed DAP would “control” the Malays.
“Let blood flow; we won’t allow DAP to take over (the country). Umno is weak, god forbid, our country is taken over by DAP,” she said.
Meanwhile, Lim also questioned if inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar would act against the Wanita Umno chief.
“If any DAP or Pakatan Harapan leader had made a similar ‘blood-curdling’ speech, Khalid would have tweeted a directive to his subordinates to commence immediate police investigations and action.
“Let us see whether there will be any action from the IGP against Shahrizat or she belongs to a special breed of Malaysians who enjoy immunity and impunity under the law,” he added.
