The Umno supreme council has decided that only party president Najib Abdul Razak will make a winding-up speech at this year’s Umno annual general assembly.

The move effectively bars Najib's opponents including Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and vice president Shafie Apdal from speaking, a first in the party's history.

“The decision has been made that only the president will make a wind-up speech,” Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told the media after the party’s supreme council meeting in Menara Umno tonight.

Zahid added Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin’s fate was not discussed in the meeting.
