DAP has urged MCA senators, especially youth chief Chong Sin Woon, to vote against the National Security Council Bill in the Dewan Negara.
Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said this after MCA Youth legal bureau chief Ng Kian Nam said that the NSC Bill, passed by the lower house last week, could lead to a dictatorship.
"As Chong has not disassociated from the statement, it can be concluded that Ng’s stand is also the official stand of the MCA Youth.
"So the question Malaysians are now asking is, will Chong take the courageous stand to vote against the Bill in the senate?" Kok asked in a statement today.
She added that Chong should make his stand known immediately.
The NSC Bill was passed in Parliament with a voice vote on Thursday.
The Bill, if enacted into law, will give the prime minister sweeping security powers.
This includes the power to declare any area a security zone.
Inside the security zone, security forces are free to arrest, seize or destroy property without needing a warrant.
Their actions can only be challenged in court if a magistrate finds it had been done in bad faith.
