Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia has challenged two DAP MPs to resign if the parliamentary reforms were implemented in the early sessions next year.
"I want them to resign or clear their seats if the first phase of the reforms are done early next year in the Parliament session.
"If they do not resign, even if they stand up a hundred times to speak or debate, I will not invite them to speak under Standing Order 35.
"They will not get my respect as a speaker," he said, as reported by BN Backbencher's Club (BNBBC) yesterday.
Standing Order 35 states that any MP who wishes to speak has to stand in their seat, and if they are not called by the speaker, they are not allowed to speak.
The two DAP MPs Pandikar was referring to are Tanjung MP Ng Wei Aik ( photo ) and Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng.
On Thursday, the two of them had urged Pandikar to resign as speaker.
They claimed that he broke his promise to bring up the parliamentary reforms to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
The cabinet, headed by the prime minister, needs to approve of the reforms before it can be tabled to the Dewan Rakyat, Ng said.
Pandikar explained that the issue could not be tabled due to lack of time.
He also said that the accusations from the two MPs show that they are disrespectful towards the consideration the speaker gives to any issue.
However, this does not mean that he will not keep his promise, he insisted, as Parliament can call for a special session to discuss important things any time.
"I will still resign if the first phase of the reforms are not implemented by the first Parliament session next year.
"But, if it is implemented, I ask for the two of them to resign. If they fail to do so, I will treat them as dishonorable MPs," Pandikar said.
