Inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar has dismissed a claim he summoned former deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais about the presence of the latter's brother at a murder scene.
This was in reference to Kevin's younger brother Richard Dilaan Morais and the murder of Ambank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi.
The claim was made in a statutory declaration (SD) by Charles Suresh Morais, another younger brother of Kevin.
"It's a total lie. He’d better show some proof," Khalid told Malaysiakini .
Charles' SD had stated: "Sometime in September 2013, I was in Atlanta at a dinner function when I received a call from Kevin who was very distraught. Kevin told me that he had received a telephone call from the police informing him that the IGP wanted to see him the next day.
"Kevin at this stage was a DPP with the MACC or the AG's Chambers. He was told that Richard had been seen leaving the scene of the Najadi murder at Bukit Ceylon in July 2013 and the IGP wanted to know what Kevin knew about this.
"Kevin informed the IGP that he had not been in contact with Richard since 2004 and knew nothing of this."
Khalid had previously declared the case of Najadi's murder as solved after Najadi's shooter Kong Swee Kwan was sentenced to death last year.
This was despite an Interpol notice out for Lim Yuen Soo, said to be the mastermind who hired Kong to carry out the hit.
It was later revealed police earlier this month succeeded in locating Lim and had detained him for eight days.
However, police said he was released as there was insufficient evidence to charge him.
The Najadi murder was brought up as a side issue in the SD Charles made about Kevin, who was in September himself a murder victim.
According to the SD, Charles said he was informed by the authorities about the post-mortem results which concluded Kevin was suffocated to death.
Kevin's body was later discovered in a cement-filled drum on September 16.
In the SD, Charles claimed Kevin was murdered as he had knowledge about wrongdoing by those in the corridors of power and claimed to be in possession of information about this, which was given by his brother.
Charles had revealed the SD today after failing to get a second post-mortem after Richard claimed Kevin's body on Nov 23 against his wishes.
Charles alleged that Richard had claimed the body at the urging of "high-ranking officials".
