A Good Samaritan has managed to return the wages misplaced by a woman following a posting on Facebook, which brought out both the best and worst in Malaysians.
While some netizens helped to track down the woman, there were also those who pretended to be the owner of the cash.
On Nov 19, a posting was published on the Mesrafotografi Nizam Facebook account together with a photograph of a man holding a stack of cash labelled "gaji Farah" (Farah's wages).
"Please make this viral. I found a stack of cash like this, without any information other than the label 'gaji Farah' and a voucher coupon. The location is in Larkin (Johor Baru). Just SMS 016-xxxxxxx,"read the post.
A short while later, the popular pop culture site Sukan Star shared his post on its Facebook , drawing much attention.
Fellow netizens chipped in to track down "Farah" and later on the same day, Nizam commented on the Sukan Star post that he had managed to locate her.
" Alhamdullilah , thank you Sukan Star for helping. I have already found the owner.
"She has called me. Thank you to all for helping me find the rightful owner," he stated.
The next day, he posted a photograph of Farah with her wages, adding that he put up the image to prove that it really happened.
"The reason I'm posting this picture is to prove that this really happened and that I don't have any other intentions," he said.
Malaysiakini 's calls to Nizam could not get through, likely because the photographer claims he is inundated by messages and calls by those claiming to be "Farah".
He posted a screenshot of a text conversation from his phone, saying that he has little patience for those who want to cheat him.
The text conversation consisted of an unknown number asking him if he could deposit the cash he found into a bank account.
When Nizam asked who the person was, the latter claimed to be Farah and asked him to deposit the cash into a bank account again.
"For your information, especially to those who just got to know me, I returned the money I found because I am honest.
"But I am also a 'penyabar nipis' (someone with little patience) when there are those who try to cheat and fool me.
"Until now, I still get some phone calls and text messages asking me to bank in the cash that they supposedly dropped even though they are outside of Johor," he said.
Happily, Nizam also received multiple messages from well-wishers, some asking if he is still single and available.
"To those who ask if I am married (many people did), I have two wives and they have blocked my quota for number three and four," he quipped.
