PARLIAMENT The government has paid RM60 million in contract service fees to the two companies managing the Automated Enforcement System (AES) traffic cameras.
Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said up to Aug 25 this year, almost RM27.2 million has been paid to ATES Sdn Bhd, while RM32.9 million was paid to Beta Tegap Sdn Bhd.
In a written reply to Khalid Samad (Amanah-Shah Alam), Liow also said that from Sept 23, 2012 up till Sept 30 this year, 2.14 million summonses had been issued.
"This is for not obeying the speed limit or traffic lights," the minister said.
The AES was put under review not long after the system went online because of an uproar over its implementation.
Yesterday, Liow was quoted by Bernama as saying that AES summonses must still be paid.
He also said the government would announce the result of the AES review soon and that it would go hand in hand with the demerit points system (Kejara).
Fourteen AES cameras are currently in operation.
