Higher allowance for Kelantan reps from next year

The Kelantan state assembly today passed the Members of the Administration and State Legislative Assemblymen's Remuneration (Amendment 2015) which saw the allowance of its assemblypersons increased to RM8,000, from RM4,600 a month currently.

As for members of the administration, like the menteri besar and deputy menteri besar, the speaker and deputy speaker, the state executive council members (exco) and deputy exco, their allowance will be increased from RM6,000 to RM10,000 a month.

The increment takes effect this January.

The bill was tabled by Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob and seconded by his deputy, Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.

In another development, the state assembly was told that the Kelantan government had not paid RM14.6 million in salary deduction of the Kelantan Islamic Foundation (YIK) teachers to saving agencies since 2001.

State Human Development, Education and Higher Education Committee chairperson Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan (PAS-Temangan) said the payment was not made due to several factors.

The arrears increased to RM14.6 million as of September this year as YIK had to restructure payment following the salary adjustment under the Malaysian Remuneration Scheme (SSM) beginning last year, he added.

He was responding to a supplementary question from Md Alwi Che Ahmad (BN-Kok Lanas) on the subscription payment of the YIK teachers to agencies, like Angkasa, Bank Islam, Tabung Haji, Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the Kelantan Islamic Religious Council Cooperative.

Dr Mohamed Fadzli said efforts were however made by the state government to make the payment and it had so far paid RM2 million.
