YOURSAY | The rakyat's closely watching to see what Hasan Arifin’s priorities are.
'Is new PAC chief out to probe 1MDB or oust Tony Pua?'
Kim Quek: Up to this point in time, none in the chorus of Umno voices baying for Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua’s blood has come up with one single instant of Pua breaching his ethics by using confidential information from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearings as the basis of his comments on 1MDB.
On the contrary, former PAC chairperson Nur Jazlan Mohamed attested that Pua had never crossed that red line, when faced with angry demands to have Pua removed from the PAC.
As official spokesperson for his party and as an MP, Pua cannot keep his mouth shut over a scandal that has not only shaken the country to the root, but has also inflicted unprecedented damage on the nation’s international credibility and image - just because he is a member of the PAC probing into this issue.
On the contrary, he must speak out courageously to defend the interests of the nation and in fulfilment of his duty to his party and his electorate - even at risk of riling up the most powerful man in the country.
It would hence be a terrible mistake for Rompin MP Hasan Arifin to start his first day as PAC chairperson by succumbing to such irrational calls to hound Pua over his legitimate comments, and allow himself to be pre-judged as another stooge of the executive, even before he commences his historical task to uncover the truth of 1MDB, which has long been earnestly awaited by the nation.
Hasan should scrap the hearing over Pua.
Anonymous #20099632: Hasan, don't make a fool of yourself. The rakyat is watching you. Your job is to investigate Najib and 1MDB and not Pua. You got that?
JomUbahUbah: All Malaysians will fully agree with what DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang said.
This PAC chief is the premier's man and the PAC probe will definitely be aimed at clearing the premier's name.
Quigonbond: Hasan is not only out to get Pua, but to close down the investigation. How any sane, conscientious MP from BN stand by and just watch the entire disgraceful episode being swept under the carpet at the expense of taxpayers' money, is beyond anyone's grasp.
It goes to show Malaysia has gone insane; it's leadership partakes in gross abuse of power and grand corruption, which can only have a crippling effect not only on our ringgit, stock market, but also on our credit rating.
In other words, the country is going to the dogs. Democracy and elections are not meant to be abused once every five years, while you get to betray the people at other times. At the rate this saga is unfolding, it is inevitable we need another Bersih.
This time it should draw on the participation of everyone, including the Malay majority. PAS should take heed of the recent Merdeka survey and mobilise its people if it doesn't want to be painted in the same light as BN.
Tholu: Even before chairing his first PAC meeting, Hasan has already adumbrated to the world at large that he is going to snip out anyone in the PAC who poses a threat by actively and efficiently probing Najib's alleged corrupt involvement in 1MDB.
How else can he thank Najib for nominating him as a candidate for Rompin's parliamentary seat?
Touche: Hasan does not have an impressive CV. He is obviously Najib's stooge appointed to exonerate Najib. Period. Where are the sultans?
1MDB critic Pua claims BN wants him out of PAC
Comments: Pua, you are just facing the BN's promised pre-meeting counter-offensive. It’s something like we see in Mafia films. The public understands and so don't worry about it.
You represent the people's collective intellect. BN has no one with the ability to match you. If there was one, he would have left - like former Temerloh MP Saifuddin Abdullah, for example.
FellowMalaysian: Najib worked from behind to replace Nur Jazlan as PAC chief with Hasan, who will carry out his firm order to stop any threats to his position. His intentions have been spelt out clearly for all to see.
Pua can only defend himself with the truth; BN's committee members can only oust him if they have indisputable evidence of what they claim. There's no reason why Pua should submit himself to a 'vote of no confidence'.
RCZ: He removed the attorney-general and the deputy prime minister. He neutered the institutions and they jump to his tune. Removing Pua is chicken feed.
However, we know the worth of Pua and his worth. And I am not talking about worth in terms of money because he wins hands down on that score.
We also know that Pua will keep fighting for us no matter what. For that he will always be admired and valued as an honest and principled politician and the type of leader we want.
Daniel: He can sack the DPM, the AG, ministers, castrate the judiciary, and all. But can he sack all the citizens?
Exranger: Just leave PAC to BN. We hope for a better Malaysia, and they are afraid of that little man called Tony Pua.
