PARLIAMENT Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said declined to answer a question on the RM42 million from Finance Ministry-owned SRC International deposited into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal bank accounts.
She said this was because the matter was still being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
"(Therefore) it is not proper for the prime minister to provide any answers (on this matter) for now," she added in a written reply to Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Kulai).
Teo asked if the prime minister received donations from SRC International as well as from other government-linked corporations (GLCs).
However, Azalina disclosed that Najib, as the MP for Pekan, received donations to carry out political activities in his constituency.
"As Pekan MP, the prime minister received funds for political activities in his constituency that was channelled for political programmes, social activities and the local community," she said.
Unlike the RM2.6 billion, which was described as political donation from a Middle Eastern source ahead of the last general election in 2013, the money from SRC was transferred into Najib's accounts late last year and early this year.
According to reports, SRC had transferred RM50 million to its subsidiary Gandingan Mentari. The money was then channelled to Ihsan Perdana.
From Ihsan Perdana, RM42 million was transferred into the prime minister's accounts.
Najib has repeatedly denied using public funds for personal gain and claimed that there is a conspiracy to topple him.
