MACC deputy commissioner (operations) Mohd Shukri Abdull has vowed to prevent any interference in the graft-buster's investigation of SRC International.
"There is no one that can interfere in MACC's work. I'll make sure of that.
"There is no problem with intervention or interference for us. We will proceed and complete our investigations," he was quoted as saying by The Star Online today.
Mohd Shukri added that the MACC was targeting to wrap up its probe on the matter by year end.
"We will try our best to complete investigations by the end of this year, Insyallah ," he was quoted as saying after a meeting with MACC directors at the agency's academy in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
However, Shukri declined to reveal the individuals being sought by MACC in this particular case.
SRC International is a former subsidiary of 1MDB but is now under the finance ministry.
In July, the Wall Street Journal reported that RM42 million from SRC International was deposited into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's (photo) personal bank accounts through intermediary companies.
This was on top of the US$681 million (RM2.6 billion) deposited into his personal bank accounts from an offshore entity known as Tanore Finance.
'Doesn't matter who they are'
Shukri said the MACC could not give a specific timeframe to complete the RM2.6 billion investigation as it was complicated and involved foreign entities.
"The RM2.6bil case will take time because it involves overseas (entities). Most of the evidence is from overseas," he said.
In August, the MACC had said it will call Najib to explain the RM2.6 billion deposits but has yet to follow through on the announcement.
Asked if MACC will finally call in Najib, Shukri replied: "We will call anybody who is involved in this case. It doesn't matter who they are".
