Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today said that the probe on 1MDB must follow due process, and should not be hastened or delayed.
The Conference of Rulers on Tuesday decreed that the probe should be wrapped up soon and wrongdoers, if any, punished to boost public confidence in the government.
"Any decree by the Conference of Rulers is viewed positively and the government has taken proactive steps to address it.
"Indeed the prosperity of the people and supremacy of the law is utmost priority.
"Therefore, all investigations against anyone must be guided by law and should not be hastened or delayed," said Zahid in a statement today.
He said the government is committed to the principle of separation of powers.
All sections must be allowed to operate independently in this context, he said.
"This includes provisions on the express and implied powers of the Conference of Rulers." he said.
'Give room to resolve'
The government will always respect the views of the Conference of Rulers, he said.
"We hope no one will muddy the waters by making statements that the government is not doing anything on the various polemicised issues.
"Give the authorities room to resolve all the issues as best as they can," he said.
Among issues the government is working on, he said, include economic stability, the slide of the ringgit, inter-racial harmony, and cost of living.
He stressed investigations on 1MDB will be "fair and open" and those found to have done wrong will be punished according to the law.
The government is also embarking on a debt rationalisation plan for 1MDB which has received positive feedback from foreign investors.
"The government will present all of 1MDB's debt reduction transactions, through investments into its assets, soon," he said.
