Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate "right down to the roots" individuals involved in fraudulently issuing the MyKad.
The party's information chief Jahid Jahim, said PBS condemned such acts and felt that heavy punishment should be imposed on the perpetrators.
"This act of issuing MyKad to illegal immigrants has caused the demography of Sabah to change drastically.
"This is a serious offence and those involved are traitors of the nation because their actions could jeopardise the security and sovereignty of the country," he told Bernama in Kota Kinabalu today.
Jahid was commenting on MACC's ongoing statewide operation 'Ops Easy Card' to track down individuals suspected of having been involved in a syndicate offering the national identification document to non-citizens.
The MACC has thus far arrested five National Registration Department officers to facilitate investigation and would be intensifying investigations to track down more evidence and suspects.
According to Jahid, the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Working Committee on Illegal Immigrants chaired by Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Joseph Pairin Kitingan had proposed the cancellation of all dubious MyKad in the state.
He said the committee also recommended that a re-registration exercise for MyKad should be held expeditiously to ensure that genuine Sabah locals were issued the identification document.
