Former Umno supreme council member Saifuddin Abdullah has replied to the show-cause letter issued to him by his party for attending a roundtable meeting organised by the opposition parties.
In his letter of reply, Saifuddin sought clarification on whether the show-cause was directed at him in his capacity as chief executive officer of the Global Movement of Moderates or as an Umno member, according to The Star today.
Saifuddin had insisted he had attended the roundtable meeting in his capacity as the NGO's chief executive officer.
“The show-cause letter is vague. Since it mentions that disciplinary action can be taken against me, I am asking what offence I have purportedly committed and which section of the party constitution I am alleged to have breached,” the daily quotes him as saying.
Saifuddin also asked for clarification if the matter had been referred to the Umno disciplinary board as the show cause letter was issued by the Umno headquarters and not by the party's disciplinary board.
He said his reply letter, together with another issued by the Global Movement of Moderates, was submitted to the Umno headquarters yesterday.
The second reply letter was issued by lawyers from the NGO, asking whether the show-cause letter was directed at Saifuddin in his capacity as CEO of the Global Movement of Moderates, and if so, whether the NGO should also get involved.
The show-cause letter, dated Sept 22, was received by Saifuddin on Sept 28. He was given 14 days to respond from the date of the letter.
The letter was issued on the same day of the opposition roundtable meeting that led to the formation of Pakatan Harapan by PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara.
