Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak arrived in New York yesterday on a working visit to attend the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor were greeted on arrival by, among others, Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman, Malaysian Ambassador to the United States Awang Adek Hussin and Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ramlan Ibrahim.
Najib is scheduled to participate in several high-level UN meetings before addressing the general assembly at the United Nations headquarters here on Oct 1.
Malaysia is currently playing a significant role at the world body as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Najib will also join world leaders at the UN Peacekeeping Summit to be presided by US President Barack Obama ( photo ) on Sept 28.
The meeting is expected to reaffirm the political commitment and support of member states to UN peacekeeping.
On the sidelines, Najib is expected to hold talks with several world leaders here.
He is also scheduled to chair the 5th Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council (GSIAC) meeting also in New York.
