The Youth wings under several MCA state chapters may boycott a meeting to be held at the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.
The meeting follows the controversial decision by Pasir Gudang MCA Youth to sever ties with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak after the latter backed the Sept 16 red shirts rally.
Quoting a source, Sin Chew Daily reported today that the boycott may occur due to dissatisfaction with certain MCA leaders for imposing a gag order on grassroots leaders from speaking on the issue and pressuring Pasir Gudang Youth to retract its decision, in order to maintain good ties with Umno.
The source also claimed the Pasir Gudang Youth wing made the decision because it felt MCA was weak and not due to pressure, as claimed by MCA secretary-general Ong Ka Chuan.
The decision had ruffled Umno's feathers and its leaders demanded action against the rebel wing.
Ong ( photo ) had announced that Thursday's meeting was being held to reach a uniform stand on Bersih 4 and the red shirts rally.
The secretary-general also urged all members to refrain from making emotional statements.
The party found itself in a dilemma after Bersih 4, in which the participants were predominantly Chinese, and with wordoing around that MCA is en route to another electoral debacle in the next general election.
Racial slurs hurled at Chinese
The party is also perceived as being weak for not being able to prevent Umno from lending support to the Sept 16 rally, which witnessed provocative banners and racial slurs hurled at the Chinese.
Besides Johor, MCA Youth wings from four states - Federal Territory, Selangor, Malacca and Pahang - are also mulling making a similar stand to cut ties with Najib.
The grassroots leaders want the leadership to make a firm stand against Najib for backing the Sept 16 rally.
"MCA wants harmony, but it has lost the hearts of the voters. The grassroots were whacked for voicing out. Nobody knows us, but at least we dare to express our view," said a grassroots leader.
It was also reported that the faction in support of former party president Dr Chua Soi Lek ( photo ) supported the stand taken by Pasir Gudang MCA Youth.
Meanwhile, Johor MCA Youth organising secretary Ng Kee Chung said the wing would decide on its next course of action after the briefing tomorrow.
"If the leaders fail to persuade the Youth, I believe they will continue to make their stand through various means," Ng said.
