The police should investigate who former Umno leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan and his lawyer Mathias Chang are working for, Veteran Umno club secretary Mustapha Yaakub said today.
"What is the relation between Khairuddin and Chang's mission with (former prime minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad's statement that (Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak) might be arrested if he travels overseas?
"Is Mahathir behind these efforts? If that is true, why is it only Khairuddin who was arrested?
"If Khairuddin's actions are considered a danger to the country, then are the people backing Khairuddin not dangerous?" Mustapha asked in a statement.
Veteran Umno is asking for the police to thoroughly investigate this issue and arrest anyone involved in this "plot to topple the government", he added.
Mahathir had speculated on Sunday that Najib could potentially face arrest if he travels abroad as a result of a number of international investigations into the scandal-ridden 1MDB.
Mustapha also lamented the fact that the American Embassy is willing to be the mediator between Khairuddin and the FBI.
This clearly shows that the 1MDB issues have been the work of foreign intervention in their attempt to topple Malay power in this country, he said.
