Kota Baru Umno division members have torched effigies of DAP leaders Lim Kit Siang and his son, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
The effigies were clad in yellow Bersih 4 t-shirts.
In a video-clip uploaded on You Tube yesterday, the division chief Fatmi Che Salleh is seen burning the effigies. The incident reportedly took place on Sunday.
A mock altar with the photographs of the two leaders was also set up, complete with joss sticks and fruit offerings, symbolising the Chinese custom of worshiping ancestors.
Umno and certain quarters had criticised the 34-hour Bersih 4 held on Aug 29-30 as a Chinese rally, given the racial breakdown of the participants.
Following the emergence of photographs showing participants stomping on images of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, a counter rally has been planned for Wednesday.
Known as the red-shirts rally, it was initially described as a gathering to uphold Malay pride and was accompanied by provocative posters warning the Chinese of a bloodbath.
However, the organiser, silat group Pekasa, has since re-branded it as a gathering for all Malaysians irrespective of race.
In the video clip, Fatmi urged party members to participate in the Sept 16 gathering in order to uphold the dignity of the Malays.
"The people of Kota Baru must fight, fight for our religion, race and country," he said.
Fatmi, who is Najib’s former political secretary, also criticised the two DAP leaders and organisers of Bersih 4, whom he accused wanted to divide the Malays.
"Burning their effigies is a symbol of our protest, we are against everything about Bersih which are just lies,” he added.
