An appreciation dinner for Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin scheduled for tonight by Bandar Tun Razak Umno has been called off.

According to a source, this was due to an order from Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Contacted later, an aide to the former deputy prime minister confirmed the event called Malam Jasamu Dikenang (Recognising Your Contributions Night) had been scrapped.

"The organiser cancelled it, not us," he told Malaysiakini .

Malaysiakini 's repeated attempts to contact Bandar Tun Razak Umno division chief Rizalman Mokhtar for comment proved futile.

However the MalayMailOnline quoted Rizalman's deputy Saharuin Zainal Abidin confirming they were instructed to "postpone the dinner" by Tengku Adnan ( photo ) last week.

"We were told to postpone because there might be problems.

"We were told to wait until after tomorrow's supreme council meeting," he had said.

Malaysiakini is attempting to get Tengku Adnan's reaction on the matter.

Tomorrow, Umno would hold its first supreme council meeting since Muhyiddin was removed as deputy prime minister following a cabinet reshuffle in late July.

Speculation has been rife that Muhyiddin and several others would be axed from Umno, but several leaders have denied this or downplayed the matter.
