Bersih is prepared to give legal assistance to the two Bersih 4 participants who are under police investigation for stomping on the photograph of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
"While we regret the actions of the duo who stomped on the photograph of Hadi and the prime minister, we believe that they have rights to legal representation.
"Bersih is ready to offer legal services to both of them and encourage them to contact the secretariat," it said in a statement today.
The statement comes after Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah urged the duo to surrender themselves after police announced they were looking for them.
Their identities remain unclear but Guang Ming Daily reported that a 15-year-old girl and a 20-year-old male had surrendered themselves at the Bukit Aman police headquarters yesterday.
The girl's father had reportedly said that his daughter attended the Bersih 4 rally on Aug 28 and 29 without his knowledge.
The duo are being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for intending to cause fear or alarm to the public.
