Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said the wife of an elected representative has a big role in determining the success of a leader.

The prime minister said they served as an anchor for the spirit during good and hard times, besides acting as a giver of spiritual care, support, and encouragement.

"With our sense of belonging, togetherness, there is no reason we cannot face all the challenges ahead and this is what I stress as teamwork between an elected representative and wife.

"This is very important for us because if our wives play their role like this, it means that our heads are calm and not frayed.

"If our wives start acting up, our heads are frayed and we cannot become good leaders or elected representatives," he said.

Najib said that while when speaking at the Sehati Kita Sejiwa dinner and the closing of Barisan Nasional (BN) elected representatives' wives annual programme in Ipoh.

"As an elected representative's wife, she must take care of us, our family, be our friend and be everything to us, so that we can be a BN elected representative who is well liked by the people," he said.

Najib said in this regard, the elected representatives and leaders should always appreciate their wives' sacrifices.

"Therefore, reciprocate our wives accordingly, take good care of their hearts, anything they ask for, we will give them due consideration," he said.
