A WhatsApp message is circulating, saying that seven Umno leaders will be axed during the Sept 9 supreme council meeting.
Among those on the chopping block named in he message are former deputy prime minister and Umno number two Muhyiddin Yassin and Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.
The others on the list are vice-president Mohd Shafie Apdal, who was also former rural and regional development minister, Kulim Bandar Baru MP Aziz Sheikh Fadzir, former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said, former Perak exco member Hamidah Osman and Sepanggar MP Jumat Idris.
Muhyiddin and Shafie ( photo ) were dropped from the cabinet on July 28 for their critical views on how Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was handling the 1MDB crisis.
However, Mukhriz downplayed the issue, saying he has not been notified of any such action.
"List ni macam-macam (has all sorts of claims)... But as long as this does not turn into a reality, I cannot respond,” he is quoted as saying by Berita Harian .
"I read all sorts of messages on WhatsApp, but until now there is no statement from anyone, especially those from Umno headquarters.
"Therefore, I cannot accept the alleged information,” he added.
Mukhriz's father, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, has been at the forefront of the campaign to push for Najib’s ouster.
The former prime minister is currently being investigated for criminal defamation concerning his remarks at Bersih 4 last weekend.
His double appearance at the protest, which among others called for Najib's resignation, drew criticism from several Umno leaders.
