An opposition coalition with PKR, DAP, PAS splinter party Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and PAS would not work, says Sepang MP, Mohamed Hanipa Maidin.
Hanipa who was formerly PAS central committee member, but now with Amanah said he respectfully disagrees with former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, who wanted PKR, DAP, Amanah and PAS to work together.
"I am not confident that the new framework that includes PAS could materialise. I have never hated or harboured ill-will on PAS, but I believe we should be realistic.
"Looking at the real political scenario now, it would not benefit anyone if PAS remains in the new opposition coalition or Pakatan Rakyat 2.0.
"For me the attitude, (with the) political style and PAS leaders now, PAS is not an asset to the opposition," he said in a statement.
He said PAS politics is no longer based on comradeship and PAS leaders make statements without caring about its impact on electoral politics.
"How can we form a coalition when we have a party who is not concern if they win or lose an election?" he asked.
Hanipa said he does not envisage of DAP accepting PAS in the new coalition after what it felt in the old Pakatan Rakyat.
He also does not see how non-Muslims who support Pakatan then would support the new coalition if PAS is invited in.
"With PAS presence in Pakatan Rakyat 2.0 what is the guarantee that non-Muslims would support the opposition," said the Sepang MP in a statement.
DAP, PKR seats affected
Hanipa said Pakatan Rakyat 2.0 needs a jump in Malay votes in order to be in Putrajaya if the non-Muslim votes remain at status quo in supporting the opposition.
And if based on this, PAS support may be needed since it is backed by the Malays at the seats it won previously.
“Hence, if PAS is involved in the opposition coalition, I am concerned that DAP and PKR seats will be greatly impacted as there will be a whiplash from voters following PAS ' action previously,” he said.
The Sepang MP said hence, it was only viable that PAS be not involved and that the new opposition coalition comprises only of PKR, DAP and Amanah.
“Let PAS be with its solo politics so that it can carry its own agenda on its own. Sorry Anwar Ibrahim and other PKR friends, I have a different view in this matter,” he said in ending his statement.
