Cheras Umno division leader Syed Ali Alhabshee has accused the opposition of hoodwinking the people, who have already been "duped" once to vote for them.
"Political and ideological differences between PAS and DAP, especially with DAP foaming at its mouth over PAS' penchant for hudud, ended Pakatan Rakyat.
"The current working relationship between all three opposition parties is murky. And now we have Parti Amanah Negara joining the mess," he said in a blog post today.
Syed Ali was responding to the party formed by PAS leaders who were wiped out during the last party polls.
He said the latest development is a great disservice to the people, who voted them believing that the opposition would bring about change and reforms as a coalition.
"It's an even bigger insult that the opposition parties now offer a vague promise of still working together on a common platform to serve the rakyat," he added.
Syed Ali noted how jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said the new party would further strengthen the fight for the opposition.
"He (Anwar) said the splinter party from PAS will work well with their former party members, DAP and PKR. This is ludicrous," said the Umno leader.
Revive pseudo coalition
Syed Ali pointed out that the PAS' constitution clearly states that members who join other parties would be automatically given the boot.
"And PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has expressed his displeasure at the splinter group.
"So how could these parties work together to serve the people?" he said.
Clearly, Syed Ali said, Anwar is attempting to revive a pseudo coalition comprising opposition parties as a way of staying relevant to the voters.
"But the opposition has not bothered to iron out its sticking points, which have created a mess and huge public spat among its members, particularly the DAP and PAS," he added.
Therefore, Syed Ali said before Parti Amanah Negara "joins the sinking club", it is only fair that DAP, PAS and PKR make a clear stand as to their point of reconciliation given that PAS has clearly shown it cannot work on a common platform.
"Making a decision to apple polish the muck would only mean the opposition parties have no qualms indulging in trickery," he added.
