Bersih today said it was considering taking the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to court for their crackdown on Bersih.
In particular, Bersih will challenge MCMC's move to block the movement's websites www.bersih.org and www.globalbersih.org and Ahmad Zahid move to gazette yellow Bersih 4 T-shirts as illegal.
"Both the MCMC and the home minister’s actions were made in bad faith.
"They have abused their powers and they have outlawed a legitimate exercise of freedom of expression by millions of Malaysians guaranteed under the Federal Constitution.
"Therefore, Bersih will consider taking all necessary steps to right the wrongs committed by MCMC and the home minister," said the polls reform group in a statement today.
Bersih further pointed out that its rally last weekend where hundreds of thousands turned up was peaceful despite warnings from the authorities not to attend the event.
