PAS wants an apology from Bersih 4 participants who stomped on a photo of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
"We urge those responsible to come forward and make an open apology and promise not to repeat such a provocative act.
"It would be better if the Bersih organiser takes responsibility to prove that they don't condone such a dirty act," PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan said in a statement last night.
The Islamist party is fuming after a photo of Bersih protesters stepping on a picture of Hadi ( photo ) and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak went viral.
Hadi has often been criticised for being too friendly or supportive of Najib, leading many to speculate that he wants to work together with Umno.
"This is a heinous lie," Nasrudin said in response.
The party is lodging multiple police reports on the incident today, although police have already said yesterday that they are probing the incident.
'Doctored photo'
Lodging a report at Dang Wangi police station this morning, Wilayah Persekutuan PAS commissioner Muhammad Noor Mohamad said police action must be taken because the picture was doctored.
In a separate statement, PAS ulama wing chief Mahfoz Mohamed acknowledged that it was an isolated incident, but warranted some self-reflection.
"It is the duty of all political leaders to educate their members to differentiate between differences of opinion and insulting someone's personality," he said in a statement today.
Mahfoz said such insults could cause an unwanted reaction that could threaten public harmony.
PAS did not mobilise its followers or leaders to attend the Bersih 4 rally, which was held last weekend.
The rally saw tens of thousands flood downtown Kuala Lumpur, in a clear show of no confidence for Najib.
