Sarawak DAP has questioned why the other opposition parties in the state are afraid of urging Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's resignation.
Bandar Kuching MP Chong Chien Jen said DAP was the only party brave enough to sound the call at the aborted Bersih 4 rally in Kuching.
"To our surprise, other opposition parties, including the chairperson of the Kuching Bersih 4 committee, Nicholas Mujah, who is also a PKR leader, shied away from calling for the resignation of Najib as the prime minister," Chong said in a statement yesterday.
He said calling for Najib to resign was their right, adding that Sarawak's opposition are supposed to be the people's voice, not BN apple polishers.
"Let Sarawak BN leaders continue singing praises for Najib and we, the DAP, call for his resignation. At the end of the day, it is the people who will judge which they prefer," Chong ( photo ) said.
The Bersih rally in Kuching was cancelled on Sunday because, among others accusations that the DAP had hijacked it.
The state DAP was said to have broken rules set for the rally, including by displaying party emblems.
However, Mujah only said the rally was cancelled because there were too many children at present, and that the public announcement system was no longer functioning.
Police reports have also been lodged against the DAP for marching from Taman Seri Sarawak to the Song Kheng Khai Field where the rally was held.
Chong said he has already given his statement to the police ( picture above ) and pledged that Sarawak DAP would give its full cooperation.
