YOURSAY ‘Bersih 4 is part of the process of seeking a better Malaysia.’
Najib slams Bersih 4 for clashing with N-Day fete
Vijay47: When PM Najib Razak so lack in substance condemned those who do not stand or agree with him, he is reduced to scrapping the bottom in futile search to find support for his arguments.
Thus he now piously preaches the sanctity of the holy day, Merdeka. Pray tell us, Najib, were Bersih 1, 2, and 3 also held close to Aug 31?
Held on "non-national" days, you still unleashed your forces against participants whose only sin was to peacefully march for an end to abuse and corruption devised mainly by you and Umno.
When the Bersih organisers applied, pleaded and begged you to permit the event, you responded with disdain and threats, finally treating fellow Malaysians to water cannons and tear gas.
Has it ever dawn on you, Najib, that fight for ‘merdeka’ is on-going; it is not just freedom from foreign masters but also liberty from local overlords who continue to shackle us?
Bersih 4 is part of that process in seeking a better Malaysia. Leave your ivory tower, get off your high horse, Najib, and march with us.
Swipenter: The timing of Bersih 4 is symbolic. Even though we have achieved independence from the British colonialists 58 years ago, the former was surreptitiously replaced by another kind of homegrown colonialism in the form of Umno.
Like the British colonialists who were mainly interested to exploit the resources of the land, the Umno ‘colonialists’ rape and plunder our resources and allegedly steal massively from our national coffers.
The same strategies and tactics of divide-and-rule are employed by both to maintain political power over the country.
Even some draconian British colonial laws are maintained by the ‘new colonists’ to keep the people down and to shackle dissenting voices.
The Bersih movement is about eradicating corruption, enhancing good governance and reforming the government to make a better Malaysia for us, now and in the future.
Stop telling us what we can say and cannot say, what we can do and cannot do.
Anonymous_1408265047: Merdeka was a time to be remembered when Malaysians celebrated their newfound freedom. It has become a sad time as most Malaysians contemplate the freedom that has been lost.
The new constitution promised them freedom of religion; a right lost. It promised them freedom of assembly; a right lost; and a promise of severe bashing if anyone tries to do so as we witnessed outside Parliament early this week.
It promised them an independent judiciary; a right lost when the constitution was altered and so on.
Why should Malaysians be happy when they see the condition of Malaysia today and contemplate what has been taken from them? In reality, it is a time for great sadness.
This occurred because over the years the people let things pass and did not protest. Is it any wonder that Merdeka today is seen as a time to restore Malaysia to a free and open society that was enshrined in the original Merdeka constitution?
The people are tired of being told they should be happy when they are not.
Asitis: Najib, you dare talk about patriotism when it is you and your administration who is plundering the country dry.
It is in honour of our Malaysia founding fathers, the illustrious leaders of the glorious Merdeka era, that Bersih 4 chooses this time to march to win back this beloved country from the clutches of the likes of you who have totally dismantled the Merdeka vision of our founding fathers.
This, Najib, is indeed the most appropriate time for Bersih 4 to take place.
CQ Muar: "Put aside the differences and celebrate it with patriotism"? Now, look who's talking?
Najib, you sure sounded like an innocent man and a national patriot. Produce the RM2.6 billion and return it to the rakyat before you even talk of patriotism.
Basket Case: It is true, patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.
Quigonbond: The PM said, "Even if they want to gather...". So in his mind, is Bersih legal or illegal?
If it is illegal, then there is no need to approbate and reprobate between whether they can gather or not. Just come out like a man and say that they cannot gather - and face the consequences.
Anonymous_1432615540: Unfortunately, the court of public opinion here isn't as strong as in Japan and South Korea.
Despite the wealth of natural resources Malaysia possesses and the years that had gone by, we are nowhere near the elites (G8 group). One need not study rocket science to understand why.
Clever Voter: The independence of the nation is only meaningful when you have a government that is accountable, clean and progressive.
This BN administrator is unfit to govern, the endless records of alleged corruption and their absolute zero accountability mean they should step aside to pave way for a more progressive nation by the time the country turns 60.
Hmmmmmmmm: In the not too distant future, the organisers and participants of Bersih will be the acknowledged national heroes in our Merdeka celebrations.
No better way to mark Merdeka than to march
