Jessica Gurmeet Kaur, the officer who was sacked from the Attorney-General's Chambers amidst the 1MDB scandal, is thankful that she will be able to keep her Malaysian permanent residency and now wants to move on.
"I, Jessica Gurmeet Kaur, am grateful to the director-general of Immigration Mustafa Ibrahim for confirming that my permanent residency status is not revoked.
"I would like to thank my lawyers for their relentless efforts for my cause.
"I further request the media to respect my privacy so that I can move on peacefully with my life," Jessica said in a statement released through her lawyers today.
The Singapore citizen, who is married to a Malaysian, had served as head of administration and finance for the special task force secretariat investigating 1MDB.
Special task force on 1MDB dismantled
The task force was investigating 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion in deposits into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal bank accounts.
Jessica was arrested three days after attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail was replaced with Mohamed Apandi Ali, a former Kelantan Umno official and retired Federal Court judge who is seen as an ally of the prime minister.
She was subsequently sacked and Apandi went on to dismantle the special task force.
Jessica’s lawyers had expressed concern that Putrajaya was also bent on terminating her permanent residency and had threatened that Jessica would file an "explosive affidavit" over the circumstances leading to her dismissal.
On Tuesday, the Immigration Department said it would not revoke Jessica's permanent residency.
Following this, Jessica today indicated that she would now like to keep a low profile.
Jessica was represented by lawyers Lim Chee Wee, Khoo Guan Huat, Preetha Pillai, Shan Kanesalingam and Nimalan Devaraja.
