As the police are being mobilised nationwide to deal with Bersih 4 protesters in Kuala Lumpur this weekend, PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli reminded the force that the movement is also fighting for their rights and that of their children.
"I would like to remind every police and security personnel on duty during the Bersih 4 rally that we are also gathering to fight for a better future for their children," Rafizi said in a statement today.
PKR, along with other major opposition political parties, with the exception of PAS, have endorsed the Bersih 4 rally and have pledged to mobilise their members.
Rafizi ( photo ) said the police, like other Malaysians, are also being burdened by current developments in the country and Bersih 4 will stand for them.
"(We gather), so that police and security personnel and their children will not be burdened by the goods and services tax (GST) and economic pressure weighing on them.
"(We gather), so that police and security personnel and their children can live in a country where the rule of law is respected.
"(We gather) so that police and security personnel and their children can have a government that is not corrupt and misappropriates the rakyat's money," he said.
Rafizi said he is confident that police will act professionally during the rally, despite apparent attempts by the government to intimidate the protesters.
