Red shirts to take on 'yellow rowdies'

A coalition of NGOs headed by Jamal Md Yunos today held a martial arts demonstration in Kuala Lumpur in a show of strength ahead of the Bersih 4 rally.

The demonstration saw five men being beaten up with thick pieces of wood and one man who smashed roof tiles across his head, in front of Sogo shopping center.

According to The Rakyat Post , Jamal said the groups would ensure that 30,000 people in red shirts will be at hand if the yellow-shirt clad Bersih 4 supporters turned rowdy.

"If Bersih 4 organisers follow through with what they said, which was to have at least 100,000 people attending the illegal gathering, then the authorities will definitely have problem guaranteeing the safety of all the yellow participants and us.

"We won't initiate any violence, but if the yellow team does, then our people dressed in red will be able to defend ourselves," said Jamal.

Jamal said that the group will gather at the vicinity of Low Yat Plaza in the Bukit Bintang area at 9am before proceeding to Dataran Merdeka at 10am.

"Our 30,000 supporters have all signed forms agreeing that should any physical violence be inflicted on them, we will not be responsible, but we have provided accident insurance for them," said Jamal.

He added that he would call off this gathering, which was also aimed at showing support for the federal government, if Bersih did the same.
