Deputy Home Minister Mohamed Nur Jazlan has snubbed an invitation to participate in the Bersih 4 overnight rally on Aug 29 and 30.
"Why would I attend a demonstration under the hot sun and get all sweaty and black skin?" he was quoted as saying by BNBBC.my.
Last Friday, Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah invited Nur Jazlan to participate in the rally after the deputy minister stated he had no problem with the rally.
Nur Jazlan said he had no qualms with the rally as long as it followed the law.
However, he insisted that the rally was not the way to champion democracy and justice.
Nur Jazlan added that he had no intention to meet the organisers of Bersih 4, telling them to directly deal with the police.
The electoral reform coalition is organsing the 34-hour mammoth rally on Aug 29 and 30 in wake of public uproar over the 1MDB scandal and RM2.6 billion political donation to in Najib's personal bank accounts.
Bersih has urged Najib to go on leave pending investigations into the alleged RM2.6 billion ‘political funding’.
The coalition gave the premier one month to respond to its demands but lamented that Najib had not only no intention to allow a probe to be carried out independently but that he even obstructed the investigations.
