Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Umno member plotting Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's fall is an 'orang tua' (old man).
Speaking at the Lumut Umno annual meeting yesterday, Zahid however declined to name the senior saboteur.
"He is someone who has a big ambition. He is trying to enter through the 'backdoor'," he is quoted as saying by The Star .
Zahid also denied that the plotter was his predecessor and Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin.
Previously it was reported that former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad ( photo ) had met with his old nemesis Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah to discuss Najib's downfall.
Mahathir has been extremely vocal against Najib, believing he would cause Umno's defeat in the next general elections.
Tengku Razaleigh, affectionately known as Ku Li, meanwhile has neither confirmed nor denied a plot.
However he said he is still supporting Najib when pressed on the matter.
Strong evidence to back up claims
According to Zahid, the plot to topple Najib will be using the 'backdoor', that is to show no-confidence to the prime minister through statutory declarations from BN and opposition MPs.
His fellow Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein believed Zahid has strong evidence to back up his claims.
"It requires strong evidence as such serious matter will not be able to convince the people, especially our members, with merely information.
"I am confident the deputy prime minister has the relevant evidence and they will be discussed at the top leadership, including the form of actions to be taken," Hishammuddin ( photo ) said according to Bernama .
