Ismail Sabri Yaakob may have earned flak for proposing a Malay-only Low Yat 2, but Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia today sang praise to the rural and regional development minister, telling him to "carry on".
The newspaper in its editorial piece under the pseudonym Awang Selamat Sabri said he should not waver over the criticisms and press on.
"No need to be disturbed by objections and arguments that are foolish and baseless," it said in its Sunday edition Mingguan Malaysia .
Low Yat Plaza is a popular mall which sells electronic gadgets and was the scene of a riot last month after a mobile phone theft turned racial.
Utusan also blasted MCA for criticising Ismail's proposal to set up the new electronics mall.
"Linking the proposal to racism shows who are the true racists. MCA should be encouraging such malls as an alternative choice for society," it said.
It added that the Chinese community who are accustomed to doing business would not be threatened by a new Low Yat Plaza.
"All this while, other races have also not complained the setting up of businesses exclusively Chinese such as Petaling Street," it said.
