Johor crown prince Ismail Ibrahim sang praises for the state's Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin, describing him as an exemplary leader.
Ismail's remarks comes amid a national political crisis and brewing discontent in Johor over Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's move to purge his critics, including Muhyiddin Yassin, a prominent Johor leader, as deputy prime minister.
"I wholeheartedly commend the efforts of Mohamed Khaled ( photo ) in his pursuit of righteousness and his concern of Johor's future.
"His efforts are exemplary and should be emulated by other leaders, and not follow in the footsteps of those who have abandoned their principles for personal gain.
"Also not to be like some who only sings praises of certain leaders, but upon realising the discontent of the people, quickly change their stand," said Ismail in a Facebook posting.
Ismail added that people should be mindful when selecting their leaders.
"In choosing leaders, we must be mindful to appoint those who are qualified, wise, and transparent, as not to be a laughing stock of the people," he said.
Khaled had in recent weeks repeatedly warned Umno that it was in crisis following Muhyiddin ouster.
However, the menteri besar has been diplomatic in his treatment of Najib, urging respect for him.
Saya memuji seikhlasnya usaha YAB Dato' Hj. Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Menteri Besar Johor dalam mempertegakkan kebenaran...
