Najib Abdul Razak may be busy fending off a political crisis but the prime minister wouldn't miss his chance to support his favourite football team Manchester United, ahead of the English Premier League, which kicks off today.
Taking to Facebook, Najib said he believed Manchester United is in for a strong season with several new players.
"Darmian, Depay, Romero, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger. I see this season Manchester United is stronger compared to the previous season.
"We will see tomorrow," he said in a Facebook posting late last night.
Manchester United will take on Tottenham Hotspur later today.
However his enthusiasm in the new premier league season was not entirely shared by netizens as he deals with the controversial deposits of RM2.6 billion into his personal bank accounts.
Najib's party has insisted the money was not from state funds but was a political donation, citing confirmation from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
"Najib, why don't you buy Manchester United with the billions you have," said Facebook user Froll Rizzoe.
"Very good fan to have, he can use the RM2.6 billion to buy back Ronaldo, added Bryan Chung.
Some Manchester United fans, however, weren't that happy with Najib' support.
"Please don't support Manchester United, you bring back luck," said Mohd Asyraf Mohammad.
Another Facebook user, Mohamad Haris Ishak, said: Why does Manchester United have a fan like Najib? No wonder it did not do well. Why doesn't Najib support Arsenal instead?"
