IGP tells S’gor MB to shut it over cops vs MACC

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has told Azmin Ali to “keep quiet” after the Selangor menteri besar urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to strike back at the police for interference.

This was after police arrested several MACC investigators and raided their homes and offices over their investigation into SRC International.

RM42 million out of RM2.6 billion deposited into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal bank accounts originated from SRC International.

Khalid said Azmin should not be weighing in on matters that he was unclear about.

“Selangor menteri besar, if you don’t know about the duties being carried out by the police and MACC, then it is best to keep quiet.

“Do not interfere in our duties,” Khalid said in a Twitter posting.

Yesterday, Azmin ( photo ) pointed out that it was a crime to obstruct MACC’s investigation under Section 48 of the MACC Act.

He went on to urge MACC to use its powers to thwart the “illegal interference” by the police.

MACC, along with the police, Bank Negara and Attorney-General’s Chambers was part of a special task force probing RM2.6 billion received by Najib.

However, attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail was sacked last Tuesday and replaced with Mohamed Ali Apandi, who disbanded the special task force.

MACC has vowed to press on the investigation alone, but its deputy director Mustafar Ali last night conceded the police actions were impeding its probe.
