The police will record statements from more officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Bank Negara and Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).
Asked if this would include Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz ( photo ) and MACC number two Shukri Abdull, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar did not rule out the possibility.
"We'll see. Questioning those whom we believe can shed light on an investigation is part of procedure," he told Malaysiakini .
"We will be questioning more people from Bank Negara, MACC and the AGC," he added.
As for Bank Negara officials, Khalid said the investigation is also related to police reports on leaks of banking transactions.
"Police are looking into this as well and on this aspect, we will also be calling officers from commercial banks for questioning," he added.
Zeti, Shukri ( photo ) and several other high-ranking officials from Bank Negara, MACC and the AGC were named in certain blogs as conspiring to bring down Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
MACC has repeatedly denied that its officers are involved. Previously, Bank Negara also denied that its officials had leaked banking transaction matters.
Police are probing the case under Section 124 of the Penal Code for activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.
On Friday night, former MACC adviser Rashpal Singh and AGC officer Jessica Gurmeet Kaur were arrested. On Saturday morning, MACC deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Sazalee Abdul Khairi was detained.
The three have since been released.
Nothing to do with 1MDB probe team
Meanwhile, Khalid also clarified that police are not investigating those who were involved in the 1MDB probe.
"This has nothing to do with their role in investigating the allegations concerning 1MDB but rather the police reports on the leak of documents," he said.
The police chief was responding to MACC director Bahri Mohamad Zain ( photo ), who claimed that hidden hands were responsible for the police’s actions.
He had described the 1am arrest of Ahmad Sazalee as 'mad' police work.
Bahri was grilled for three hours by a team from Bukit Aman on the leak of the draft charge sheet allegedly for the prime minister, which has seen been dismissed as false.
