The Umno-owned Malay language newspaper Utusan Malaysia did not publish deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin's fiery speech yesterday.
Speaking at the Cheras Umno division annual general meeting yesterday evening, Muhyiddin Yassin warned that the party was suffering a perception crisis due to the 1MDB controversy.
He even said that should the general election be held soon, Umno would lose.
A check in today's Utusan revealed nothing on Muhyiddin's speech or the Cheras Umno division meeting.
Instead, the paper highlighted stories about defending the Home Ministry's ban on two publications of The Edge , as well as Umno leaders calling party members to be united.
Meanwhile, another Umno-linked Malay language newspaper Berita Harian reported Muhyiddin's speech.
The report quoted Muhyiddin supporting the call to make the 1MDB interim report public, but did not report on his warrning that Umno could lose the next general election.
There is also no mention about Muhyiddin's revelation that he advised Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to step down as the 1MDB advisory board chairperson and that it fell on deaf ears.
The New Straits Times also chose to downplay Muhyiddin's speech.
In a six-paragraph report, NST reported that Muhyiddin urged party members to face reality or risk losing the next general election.
