Rahman Dahlan: Kit Siang is shooting the messenger

Cabinet minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan has questioned why DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang insists on discrediting Lester Melanyi, who "confessed" to whistleblower website Sarawak Report's   alleged plot to undermine Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Abdul Rahman said Lim should rightfully encourage the police to investigate the claims in the interest of justice.

"Sadly, Lim chose to ignore the message and instead vilified and demonised the messenger," said Abdul Rahman, who is the urban wellbeing and development minister, in a Facebook post today.

Last Wednesday, Abdul Rahman held a press conference on Lester's "video confession" where he accused Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle Brown of admitting to "forging" documents meant to implicate Najib.

However, Rewcastle have produced evidence that Lester had quoted her out of context and that he had never worked with Sarawak Report , as claimed by Abdul Rahman.

'Gutsy scum'

Parti Rakyat Sarawak president James Masing had also publicly stated that Lester had credibility issues.

However, Abdul Rahman defended Lester's credibility on grounds that he had named several prominent opposition leaders of being involved with Rewcastle in the plot against Najib.

"Let's be frank. It is not easy to do a video confession and implicate big names. That takes a lot of guts even for a scum. A lot of people like to throw accusations but hate to name names. Not Lester. He dared to name the people openly!"

Abdul Rahman was referring to Lim's earlier allusion that Lester was "scum" out to make a quick profit.

"I don't know Lester personally to pass judgement about him. But perhaps being perceived as a scum was precisely the reason why Sarawak Report chose and hired him to incessantly demonised Sarawak leaders for years and now Najib.

"After all, it takes a scum to know another scum," he said.
