Dr Mahathir Mohamad has warned that those who cover-up and conceal evidence of a crime are aiding the criminal.
"They would be aiding and abetting the criminal. They too should be charged, tried and sentenced.
"Keeping evidence that you have gathered so as to hand over only when the case is proven will not free you from that charge of abetting," Mahathir said in his blog post.
Although he did not mention names, it was obvious that Mahathir was referring to the allegations concerning 1MDB and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
A multi-agency task force is currently investigating the matter.
Ci iting Malaysian government investigators, The Wall Street Journal in a report claimed that almost RM2.6 billion in 1MDB's funds were deposited into Najib's private bank accounts.
Meanwhile, Mahathir questioned those who "refuse to blow (the whistle)."
"What about those who hide the misdeeds which they know. What about the cover-uppers.
"The law says those who cover-up, hide evidence of crime would be considered as accessory to the crime," he said.
Admitting there is risk in whistle-blowing, Mahathir said there is also risk in covering-up, aiding and abetting.
"You are really between the devil and deep blue sea. You must make the decision now or forever regret," he said.
