The publisher for The Wall Street Journal , Dow Jones, today described the reports over the transfer of 1MDB funds to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal accounts as ‘fair and accurate’.
A spokesperson for Dow Jones was quoted by The Star Online , as saying that it stood by reports on the evolving story.
The international business daily had last week reported that US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) of 1MDB funds had been channeled into Najib's accounts.
The revelations by the WSJ and Sarawak Report are now a subject of a probe by a task force that comprises Bank Negara, the police, Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission and the Attorney General Chambers.
Today Najib's lawyers from the firm of Hafarizam, Wan Aisha & Mubarak sent a letter to WSJ giving them 14 days to confirm their articles.
Meanwhile the premier maintained today that no money from the fund was used for personal gain.
Najib also said last weekend that he would not betray the people of Malaysia and their property.
"That is my promise," he had said in Semenyih.
