The Malaysian under-13 football squad is winner of Iber Cup Costa Del Sol 2015, a youth tournament held in Spain.

In today’s final, the team, coached by Lim Teong Kim, triumphed 2-1 over Sporting Lisbon U13.

Harimau Malaya’s Facebook page reported that the players did well in executing Lim’s game plan.

The win is said to be unexpected for many leading European football academy coaches.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin ( photo ) immediately congratulated the team on their victory in a Twitter posting.

"Alhamdulillah, Congratulations. Wow!" said Khairy.

The under-13 players are from the National Football Development Programme, a joint effort between the Youth and Sports Ministry, Malaysian Sports Council, and the Football Association of Malaysia.

The programme was set up to promote the sport and groom football talent among schoolchildren all across Malaysia.
