Deputy Johor Umno Youth chief Khairul Anwar Rahmat today supported the Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim's reminder for politicians to serve the people first.
"Islam does not teach us to be so obsessed with our own thoughts or with our group that we close our eyes to the views of others.
"Personal interests and greed, and narrow political ideologies should be put aside to achieve a blessed and prosperous nation," he said in a statement today.
He also praised Tunku Ismail for accurately articulating the concept of leadership of Islam, adding that the rakyat should be the priority.
This is the first time Khairul Anwar, who was the organiser of the 1MDB dialogue dubbed 'Nothing2Hide', said anything about Tunku Ismail since the dialogue fiasco.
Tunku Ismail had slammed Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for not turning up at the 1MDB talk on June 5.
Najib did not turn up at the eleventh hour citing security concerns.
His fiercest critics, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was present, had taken advantage of Najib's absence and delivered a speech criticising Najib at the function.
A day after the public relations disaster for Najib, Khairul said he had met the prime minister to explain the circumstances of the dialogue which descended into an anti-Najib event.
Khairul had accused Najib's aide of sabotaging the function by blocking the prime minister from attending the event, thus allowing Mahathir to take control.
The Umno Youth leader believed that had Najib met with Mahathir, even if in private, it would have helped to dissipate the animosity between the two.
"Unfortunately, the aide worked to block the prime minister's attendance conveyed inaccurate information and made the situation worse by exaggerating the matter to the prime minister that he would supposedly be mocked if he turned up at PWTC," he had said.
