PAS members have been warned by their newly-minted vice-president Idris Ahmad not to accuse their leaders of wanting to join forces with Umno.
Using an analogy to illustrate his point, Idris said PAS members should not jump to conclusions just because their leaders have tea with an arch-rival.
"Do not go overboard that (we) cannot see PAS leaders whom we dislike drinking tea with Umno and immediately accuse them of becoming Umno," he said in a statement.
Idris said accusations against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang of supposedly wanting to cooperate with Umno were perpetrated by those vexed that he still has strong support among party members.
"For your information, Abdul Hadi ( photo ) was invited by Umno leaders to join hands before, but his answer was clear and firm - PAS will not be with Umno but with Pakatan Rakyat.
"It does not make sense now to betray this team (Pakatan) and blacken his legacy by joining Umno, a party that he has fought against since young.
"Do not be so angry so as to be willing to accuse PAS leaders of wanting to join Umno," he said.
'Convince Umno supporters to join PAS'
Idris said instead of accusing leaders of this, party members would do well to convince their families, particularly those supporting Umno, to join PAS' struggle.
"People join PAS not out of hatred for Umno, not because they lost faith in Umno, not because they are disappointed they failed to get contracts, but because of Islam,” he argued.
He said history has proven that PAS members, including notable leaders, ended in the wilderness after joining Umno.
In contrast, he said those accused of wanting to join Umno have instead breathed their last in PAS.
"At one time, people accused Harun Taib and Abu Bakar Chik of wanting to join Umno but both of them died fighting in PAS.
"Those who accused the two of wanting to join Umno may not necessarily breath their last in PAS," he said.
